The finish line is finally in sight for Rockstar.
We just got word that they’re officially moving into the “endgame” phase for GTA 6. Rockstar has started a massive hiring push for permanent Associate QA Testers at their Bangalore studio, with a recruitment event on April 18, 2026.
This isn’t your typical seasonal contract work either. These are full-time roles, which tells me Rockstar is locking in the November 19, 2026 release date and building a team for the long haul to support whatever GTA Online becomes next.

Why I’m Probably Sitting This One Out
Truth be told, I have always had a weird relationship with the GTA series. And there are three big reasons why I usually bounce off of them.
I Don’t Like Playing the Bad Guy
I know it’s just a game. But I’ve always struggled with it.
I couldn’t even bring myself to do an evil playthrough in Fable. When I played Star Wars: The Old Republic, I could never stick with a Sith character. I like being the hero. Being a career criminal just feels “off” to me.
This isn’t a moral judgment on anyone who loves GTA. It’s just not how I’m wired as a player. I gravitate toward characters I can root for, and a protagonist whose day job is crime doesn’t click for me.
The Map Vomit is Real
I love a good open world. But when a game throws hundreds of icons at me the second I open the map, I get overwhelmed.
As a dad with limited gaming time, I usually end up just turning the game off because I don’t know where to start. Do I chase the story mission? Clear the side content? Drive around and explore? When everything is screaming for attention, nothing gets done.
This was my exact experience with GTA V. I’d sit down with my one hour of free time, open the map, stare at the chaos, and boot up something else.
I Can’t Buy Into the Story
Rockstar writes solid stories. I know this objectively. Millions of people are deeply invested in the worlds they build.

But for some reason, I just can’t get immersed in Los Santos or Vice City the way I can with other RPGs. The satire is clever but it keeps me at arm’s length. I never feel in the world the way I do with a Baldur’s Gate or even a Slay the Spire run where the stakes feel personal.
Maybe GTA 6 will be the one that finally clicks. Maybe the characters will be more relatable. Maybe the world will feel less like a checklist. I’m genuinely open to it.
The Genuine Geek Take
The news that Rockstar is hiring permanent testers is a huge signal that the November 2026 window is the real deal. They’re clearly done with the “concept” phase and are now just trying to break the game as much as possible before it hits shelves. CBR reported that the fan community is seriously hyped, and this is widely considered the final testing phase before the game goes gold.
From a technical standpoint, I’m fascinated to see how they handle the scale. The trailer already showed a level of detail that’s going to stress hardware in ways we haven’t seen yet.
But as a casual gamer dad, I’m still on the fence. I want to love it. But if I’m forced to be a villain in a world covered in map markers, I’ll probably just stick to my backlog or another round of Slay the Spire 2.
Are any of you planning to pick it up day one? Or are you in the same boat?
